All right, since it's currently the Advent season

as I'm recording this, which means Christmas is on its way, I thought I'd tackle a question

from a listener named Jackie. She asks me, how do you deal with grandparents and relatives

who give way too many gifts to your kids for Christmas, especially gifts you don't really like

anyway. I just don't know what to do. I get asked this all the time. Honestly, this might be one of

my most asked questions. So in the spirit of the season, let's dig into this a little bit.

But this also applies to year-round living for birthdays and for other events, too.

Because basically we're talking about this issue of, how do I deal with the loved ones in my life

that just don't give gifts the way I wish they did? Whether it's too many things or the wrong

sorts of things, it all stems from the same core issue, keeping a healthy relationship in

light of gift giving. It's hard for me to address this in a hard and fast way, like this is

the way to handle things, because every person and family in situation is completely different

here. And I have to be honest up front. We are incredibly fortunate to have two sets of

grandparents that, for the most part, don't overdo it. So it's almost a little unfair for me to

answer this with any sort of personal expert voice because I'm not one. But I'd love it if any of
