The amazing Kate Casey.

Welcome back for another episode of Reality Life with Kate Casey, and welcome back for part two of my

interview with Cheryl McCollum, known to almost everyone as Mac.

I originally reached out to her because I wanted to ask her about one case that she had worked

on in particular. But the first interview, which I want you to go back and

listen to, lays the groundwork for everything that we get into today. She has had a remarkable

career. For context, she is an Emmy Award-winning crime scene investigator. She serves as forensic

and crime scene expert for crime stories with Nancy Grace and writes for

crime online.

She holds a master's degree in criminal justice with an emphasis on policing, and she co-authored

the textbook Cold Case Pathways to Justice.

She's also the founder and director of the Cold Case Investigative Research Institute,

a 501C3 that brings together

university researchers, practitioners, students, and the criminal justice community to advance

solvability techniques for unsolved homicides, missing persons cases, and kidnappings,

and also to support both families and law enforcement through that process.

So I asked her about the case of Chandra Levy. When she disappeared, I was also living in Washington,

D.C., and it is a story that haunted the city for decades. Shandra Ann Levy was 24 years old,

working as an intern at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Washington, D.C.,

and finishing a master's program through USC when she vanished in May of 2001.

Her disappearance became a national story almost immediately, and it became an even bigger one
