Shards of rusty metal protruding from chunks of crumbling brick and rubble littered the outskirts of the old brickworks.

It would be dark soon. The sun was shrouded behind a wall of gray clouds as it sank below

the horizon.

Peter made the observation to himself that there were no shadows, or technically only shadows, in the absence of the sunlight.

The brickworks had been closed for years, and the local legend was that it was haunted by the ghost of a man who had been killed there

in a work accident years prior when the plant was active.

Peter and his friend Mark had traveled from London to explore the old brickworks and

try their hand at ghost hunting.

They sat in silence in Mark's cars, they waited for the sun to set so they could begin their investigation.

Do ghosts not come out during the day? Peter asked.

I don't think so, Mark said, adding, pretty sure I read that somewhere.

The cloud-covered sky changed from gray to dark blue to black, and the two friends emerged
