Welcome to Raising Good Humans. I'm Dr. Eliza Pressman and today is a special topic because I have a guest, a friend who is an incredible and passionate advocate for mothers.

Christy Turlington Burns who founded every mother counts, because she

knew that there were far too many pregnancies and childbirths that are not the events that we hope for.

And when she found out about how many preventable maternal deaths

happen in the developing world, in fact, the US is the only industrialized nation

with a consistently rising maternal mortality rate and we spend more per capita

on health care than any other country.

So when she found this problem after having her own experience,

giving birth to her first child,

she went on a mission to change things for women.

And since one of the things that Christie does through every mother counts is bring together

healthy moms who are able to and not just

moms anybody who wants to do this but healthy groups of a community that want to

run for mothers, they have marathoners raising money for global maternal health.

So I thought it was a good time to welcome Christie and I love her so much and I think this is going to be really an interesting conversation and it's important to check in especially as we you know get past Halloween and on to thinking about

Thanksgiving it's a great time to check in with ourselves and think about how important it is to take care of each other as

mothers, to take care of babies by taking care of mothers and to do our part. So I just

thought it would be great to find out about, you know, every once in a while, what

one mom is doing to take on supporting global health. And don't forget to stick around because afterwards I'm going to have
