The man of love China, of course, the book from 2008

by author Simon Winchester.

In the UK, the book came out is Bomb, Book, and Compass. Joseph Needham and the Great Secrets of China.

Simon Winchester is of course known for many past titles.

The Surgeon of Crowthorne, Tale of Murder Madness in the Oxford English Dictionary,

The map that changed the world, William Smith and the birth of modern geology,

Krakatoa, the day the world exploded, August 27th, 1883, and most recently the men who

united the States.

America's explorers, inventors, eccentric andicks, and the creation of one nation, indivisible.

Joseph Needham, if you recall, of which in CHP episode number three, covering the four grade inventions.

My main source for that early episode was Robert Temple's fine book,

of which Needham wrote the intro called The Genius of China.

This book was a finely distilled Greatest Its Package of Needham's Magnum Opus and Labor of Love.
