Hey guys, what's up? Welcome to Relatable. Today we're talking about another exciting subject.

0:05.6

And that is universal basic income. Aren't you guys pumped? No, I really am excited about it.

0:10.8

This just isn't... I think I said this about another topic recently. It's not the most sensational

0:14.7

topic in the world. It might not be something that you're going to necessarily get into an argument

0:19.5

about anytime soon with one of your friends, but hey, maybe you will. But the reason that we're going

0:24.0

to talk about it is because you are probably going to hear a presidential candidate talking about

0:29.7

this soon if you haven't already, particularly Democratic candidate Andrew Yang. Now this is not

0:34.9

a guy who has a whole lot of name recognition right now, but he's actually been on some more

0:41.6

conservative outlets like he was on Tucker Carlson, he was on Ben Shapiro's show, but he just is not

0:48.4

quite as famous as the more mainstream candidates, even a newcomer like Pete Buttigieg, but he talks a

0:57.6

lot about universal basic income. It's also something that Bernie Sanders has talked about some,

1:02.5

and if it is an idea that ends up appealing to people, which we'll talk about how appealing it

1:09.2

actually is, you're probably going to start hearing more candidates talk about it. But I do think

1:14.3

that we need to talk about it regardless of whether or not it's a big topic in 2020 because it's

1:20.1

an idea that has been circulating for a while, and I think we'll probably continue to circulate.

1:26.4

It speaks to a part of our culture that is important for us to analyze, which is why we're going to

1:32.9

talk about what it is, we're going to talk about how it works, if it actually works, if it's

1:37.3

effective, and then I'm going to use it just as a launching pad, I'm not going to necessarily

1:41.7

connect it completely. I'm going to use it as a launching pad to talk about a part of our culture,

1:47.5

particularly for younger generations that I think needs a readjustment and a rethinking about.

1:53.8

Let us first talk about what universal basic income is and why you've got people talking about it.

2:01.2

It's the idea that every person gets a fixed amount of money every month from the government.
