The rabbis would want to preserve that the law is the way of salvation, and only they can keep the law, so only they are in the club.

And of course, Jesus was very upset about that.

They were making, in effect, converts that were tries to spit for hell as they were themselves.

The means of salvation was to trust in the name of Christ.

It was the way of grace, not the way of law.

In the rewording of the messianic passages, you see the rabbis in effect sort of

try to reword the means of salvation away from trusting in the name of the Messiah, trusting in the

name of Christ, and try to reword it in such a way that it's following laws. That detective

story is part of the truth is that you've got, you know, 8,000 different copies of the text that we can work through and we can pinpoint ultimately what the original said.

And so our confidence in that we have the text as it originally was should be very, very high. Once you get to

the Talmud and the Mishnah, you now have a different Judaism. The Judaism of the Old Testament

has been put aside. Temple Judaism is no more.

You only have the Pharisees.

And the Pharisees changed their name to the rabbis.

And so a new Judaism has been created that's not based upon temple worship,

the sacrifice, blood, etc.

It's based upon the Mishnah, the oral law,
