| 0:52.0 | But it also seems critical to acknowledge the grief of the war in Ukraine. |
| 0:59.7 | And so in Tick-N-Hon's honor, I start with a story back in the 1970s when I was coming |
| 1:08.3 | and going from Thailand, and I think there are times for some years as a monk. |
| 1:14.0 | There was a lot of conflict in the streets of Bangkok between the military dictatorship |
| 1:22.9 | that had taken over the government and the protesting students. |
| 1:27.5 | And there were barricades that were there in the center of the city, not far from the |
| 1:32.5 | Grand Palace and the government buildings. |
| 1:35.9 | And the fighting had escalated so that students had been shot and killed and Molotov cocktails. |
| 1:43.0 | It was really getting terrible. |
| 1:46.3 | And there seemed to be no way to de-escalate it. |
| 1:50.5 | And then one morning, probably starting very early in the dark, a meditation master from |
| 1:59.2 | one of the forest monasteries called together his monks and nuns. |
| 2:03.9 | And they traveled to Bangkok and walked on foot along the way. |
| 2:08.9 | And after Don broke, they walked and they simply stood in their robes silently with their |
