0:15.0 | And now your host, Master Coach Instructor, Brook Castillo. |
0:20.0 | Well hello my friends. Today I'm going to talk to you about studying yourself. |
0:29.0 | And the reason I've decided to create this lesson and also an accompanying course to go with it is because of all of the feedback that I get from all of my podcast listeners and all of my students about what they've learned from me. |
0:49.0 | And one of the things that I have noticed is that people understand what it means to consume and to learn, but we aren't as good at applying and practicing. |
1:03.0 | And so I know that many of you have learned a lot of information. You've learned a lot of information from me, you've learned a lot of information from other teachers. |
1:12.0 | You understand intellectually how the world works, you understand somewhat how the rules of the game are played, but very few of us practice getting good at our game, the game of life, the way we want to live our life. |
1:32.0 | And so one of the things that I've really been teaching a lot lately to my students is the art of living deliberately. |
1:41.0 | And what that requires is that we decide how we want to live our lives and then we practice living our lives that way. |
1:52.0 | And there are only a few components that go into studying ourselves and how we interact with our lives. |
2:01.0 | And if we make it a consistent practice to study, to plan, to prepare, and then to show up in the world, the way that we want to show up and be the way that we want to be, then we can live a life that is much closer to the ideal that we have in our minds. |
2:22.0 | So many of us have accepted a life that is not to our liking, that includes too many things in it that cause us too much trouble that we don't know how to manage. |
2:35.0 | And so we end up living in a reactive mode, feeling like we are at the mercy of our own lives. |
2:41.0 | And I will say that for me, the way to get out of that reaction mode is actually quite simple. |
2:50.0 | Now it's not easy, but it's simple. So here's what I mean by that. |
2:55.0 | When you understand the rules of a game, you understand, for example, soccer. |
3:02.0 | You understand that in order to play good soccer, you need to understand where you are in relation to the field. |
3:10.0 | You need to understand that the ball needs to go into the goal. You understand how you use your other team members. |
3:16.0 | And let's say you've studied the game of soccer and you understand it intellectually. |
3:20.0 | And this is what happens to many of my students is they read a book on soccer. They read a book on self-help. |
3:27.0 | And then they think, okay, I've got this. Now I'm going to go into my life with this knowledge and my life will be better. |
