Welcome to our special four-part series on Lent.

The season of Lent is 40 days of prayer, fasting and almsgiving before the celebration of

the resurrection of Jesus at Easter.

It is an opportunity to examine our lives and grow closer to Jesus.

Each of the three pillars of Lent, prayer, fasting and almsgiving, help us to grow in our

spiritual lives in different ways.

But sometimes, Lent gets a bad reputation as being, well, not fun.

Giving things up, praying more and eating less can be hard.

But wow, it's a great feeling at Easter when you realize you can do hard things and

have grown in new and exciting ways.

And all those Easter treats seem to taste better after a good Lent, too.

Today we'll be telling the story of St. Hugh Bear of Lige, who was not interested at

all in participating in Lent.
