It's an issue that's divided both parties.

It's an issue that was central to the last presidential campaign.

And someone who's deeply invested in that discussion was Michael Froman, who was the United

States Trade Representative under the Obama administration, and a central player in the

negotiation of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Michael came by the Institute of Politics the other day to talk about where the issue

of trade goes from here.

And while he was here, we sat down to talk about that, but also his life and career.

I never really had a chance when we worked together because we were in the midst of a

financial crisis and a few other things to talk to you about how you got to where we were

in your own life.

So tell me about growing up in the Bay Area back in the day when you were a kid and how

that helped formulate what you would become.
