Summary
Episode 13 is filled with discussions surrounding substance abuse, use and addiction. Deanna and Frances also explore and discuss the difference between helping and enabling behaviors that some of us exhibit when we have a loved one struggling with substance abuse. Supportive resources and advice is shared which will hopefully guide people in a healing direction toward sobriety and the resolution of co-dependent family dynamics that is oftentimes found in families who are struggling with an addiction (no judgement, by the way.) Later in the show the women introduce their new segment called the "Good News Feed" where they share some of their favorite good news stories of the week.

| 0:22.2 | on Instagram if you want to follow us. Yes, and we're here for episode number 13, lucky number |
| 0:27.0 | 13. So we thought we would jump in today with a topic that, whether you want to admit it or |
| 0:33.6 | not, it has touched you in some way, shape, or form, and that is substance use and |
| 0:37.8 | addiction. And we want to try something. Now that we're 13 episodes, and we feel like we should |
| 0:42.3 | probably have a little bit of structure. And what's that? Yeah. Structure. So Deanna and I are, |
| 0:50.2 | we're really just trying this podcast thing out, but we've had really great feedback. A lot of people who tune in every week. So we want to be able to bring you our best above average attempts at doing it. |
| 1:00.8 | I like that above average. I really like that. Thank you. |
| 1:04.5 | Hey, bees get degrees in the program I went to. So to give you an idea of the direction of the podcast today, we're going to give you a little |
| 1:10.9 | bit of background on addiction and substance use, our own experiences, working with it |
| 1:16.1 | and in life in general. |
| 1:18.2 | Some family dynamics that I think people overlook, but definitely fuel the substance use cycle. |
| 1:25.2 | Oh, a topic that Deanna loves talking about, and that is marijuana and the |
| 1:29.6 | recent legalization in California. If you can see or cringe, it would be great. I have a really |
| 1:35.9 | interesting little bit of information from the CDC that will make you question whether or not you |
| 1:40.9 | are a heavy drinker. We'll give you some ideas on resources if you or someone |
| 1:45.5 | you know needs them. And something new you wanted to start this week. And I'm excited about |
| 1:49.7 | the good news feed. Yeah. On Instagram, I routinely put up good news in a world full of just |
| 1:58.1 | bad news, you know, that creates a lot of fear and just drives ratings |
| 2:02.3 | because people like to traumatize themselves, me included. I think it would be really, really |
| 2:07.0 | good for us to start highlighting our chosen kind of favorites of the wheat in terms of good news. |
| 2:13.2 | So we'll be doing that later in the show. I'm so excited about my choice too. I have a new celebrity crush. Chris Pratt has to move over. Oh, really? He's been replaced by an older man. Sometimes. Sometimes it happens. Sometimes. All right. So let's jump into addiction. So before we get started on the background of addiction, Deanna, have you heard the argument, |
