Hey, I know I'm usually cheeky and silly in these intros to Potterless, but I'm going to save

the goose for later on in the episode. For now, I want to talk about what's going on in the world around us because I think that it would be irresponsible not to address it. So there's two things I wanted to address really quickly. Black Lives Matter and JK Rowling's recent Twitter tirade. For Black Lives Matter, I've been trying to be the best ally that it can be possible. I've been using social media to share information about where you can donate or educate yourself or raise money even if you don't have funds to donate to all of these different charities and good causes. It's also the reason why I've taken a step back on social media, not posting as many Harry Potter goofs and stuff, because now isn't really the time for that, and I would rather people's social media feeds be filled with information about what's going on and how they can help the situation at hand. I think this cause is incredibly important. I've protested on behalf of this cause, and

I would encourage all of you to help in any way that you can and educate yourself further. Now if you're listening to this and you're thinking, oh, I wish you would just keep politics out of it. This isn't a politics issue. This is an issue about human lives, and that goes beyond politics. Also, Harry Potter is a book about standing up to injustice, so if anything, what I'm doing here is incredibly on-brand by standing up to injustice.

And finally, if part of you thinks all lives matter when someone says Black Lives Matter, just keep in mind that that's not the point. They're not saying only Black Lives Matter. And another way to think about this is when someone has a 5K for cancer research, do you run and tell them, oh, what about all of the other diseases?

Don't all diseases deserve research funding? That's the kind of thing you're talking about. Black Lives Matter is an important movement. I'm planning to have Robin and Bionna from Wizard Team and Black Girls create back on the podcast to talk about this, but they are understandably very busy. Now, J.K. Rowling's Twitter shenanigans.

I was trying to not use social media, as I just said, 35 seconds ago.

And then J.K. decided to tweet transphobic things on Twitter. This is not the first time something like this has come up.

Unfortunately, this is the clearest she has been about what she thinks. And she has tried to defend herself and she has tried to say that she supports trans people, but it just doesn't seem to be the case. At this point, I'm just completely fed up with these shenanigans. It is unfortunate and it is very saddening to see the author of such a wonderful book series

that is all about acceptance and inclusion, not be accepting and inclusive. What she is tweeting is needlessly putting down trans and non-binary folks and it is completely unnecessary and it's awful, especially because it's Pride Month, and there's just a few more important things going on than to tweet about your shitty thoughts. I've never followed Jake Harrowling on Twitter. I've gone as far as to block her now, so I just
