Let's kick off today's show with a brief CD story to make you uncomfortable.

Last year in Atlanta, a homeless guy got arrested for soliciting a roadside prostitute.

I don't know the exact circumstances but I'm inclined to give

the guy a pass. I find dating hard enough and I have a pretty cool apartment and a

smartphone. If you're a homeless guy you can't exactly invite someone over to your cardboard box for Netflix and chill, but I digress.

Here's the point to the story. The man got arrested and he spent three months in jail.

Not for soliciting the prostitute, this was pre-trial.

He spent three months in jail because he couldn't afford to pay the bail.

Which begs the question,

what exactly is the purpose of bail?

The idea behind it is that if you commit a crime you pay bail to the court as a kind of

financial hostage scenario to ensure you show up for your trial.

When you do, you get your money back.

If it's a particularly bad crime, you pay high bail.

And if you can't afford it, you pay a bail bondsman some portion of it and he covers the rest.

But what if you're too broke to do even that?

If I get arrested for trying to steal a submarine at the Nautical Park and Fall River, Massachusetts,

which is a hypothetical example and nothing I've ever looked into,

I've got the savings necessary to pay my bail and keep cranking out awesome
