I'm Bryce and today we're going to be in section 115 to 120.

There's a lot of history here that's important for Latter-day Saints to understand.

Do you remember when you were young and you just thought your life would be a continuously

growing line of happiness and success?

And then what life really is is a series of ups and downs, wonderful ups, followed by

a few challenging downs.

Well, it's interesting that the Lord allowed church history to follow that same pattern.

So we just saw the Kirtland period where there was tremendous prosperity.

We were dedicating the Kirtland temple, Jesus came, marvelous angelic visitors came, many

people saw visions and felt incredible glory and power.

And now just a few short months or years later, Joseph's going to be in prison, we find

ourselves in the middle of a war with the Missourians.

So like our lives, this is a pattern of ups and downs and I think it behooves each one

of us as Latter-day Saints to know that history and to recognize that there were periods

of prosperity and there were periods of pain.

And we can choose humility in prosperity or we can choose pride.
