a ton these days, and that is freedom of speech.

You've probably heard a lot if you're reading the news at all about cancel culture, which

is fundamentally a debate about free speech.

There is a growing movement, a growing sort of American trend of pounding people out of

their jobs because they wear the wrong t-shirt or making people apologize for saying the

wrong thing or wearing the wrong t-shirt.

I wrote a piece about this in Newsweek this week that kind of covers the New York Times

as sort of having these internal convulsions over this.

Barry Weiss, one of their big writers, just left because she felt that they basically

were not tolerant of any opposing viewpoints.

The list goes on, you probably don't need me to cite all of the examples.

And obviously from my perspective, this is a serious problem.

I am a devotee of that quintessentially American, but also I think Western notion of freedom

of speech, the liberty to say what you believe and feel and think without being hounded

out of your job, for example.

Now one of the things I've been thinking about is that we gesture toward freedom of speech

a lot.

We oppose cancel culture.

But that's actually not enough.
