My guest is Rich Lowry, the editor of National Review.

Last month, Pennsylvania Republicans nominated a state senator named Doug Mastriano as their candidate for the governor's election in November.

You may not know that name, but in Pennsylvania politics, Mastriano has been a menace.

He's been trying his best to prove that Donald Trump won his state in 2020.

On January 6, 2021, he organized buses for and attended the stop the steel rally to pressure Congress

to delay or reject the certification of the 2020 election. And while he did not participate

in the riot in Congress that day, and he's condemned

that violence, he nonetheless believes the 2020 election was fixed. A Pennsylvania state senator who

has helped spread President Trump's, former President Trump's unfounded allegations of election fraud,

says he's asking several counties to submit to a forensic investigation

of last fall's election. Republican, say Senator Doug Mastriano of Franklin County also wants

a so-called audit of the May primary. Counties were asked to respond by July 31st with a plan

to comply. Maseriano could theoretically issue subpoenas to hold out counties as long as he has a majority

vote of his committee.

No county election board, prosecutor or state official has raised concerns about significant

election fraud.

State Attorney General Josh Shapiro is responding tonight.

He says counties should refuse to participate in what he calls a, quote, partisan fishing expedition.

He says the audit could risk decertifying county's voting machines and could cost county taxpayers.
