Summary

We have red dot sights, a big old Tom has a red head. Coincidence  - We think not. Today’s modern shotguns, turkey loads and choke tubes make mounting a red dot sight to your gobbler-getter more practical than ever – and just might make your rig more effective than ever! And it’s really not that hard! There’s more than one way to mount your dot, and we go through those methods. And if you have a do-all shotgun for all your hunting applications, mounting your dot and taking it off depending on your upcoming hunt, just ain’t that big a deal. Not only is a red dot sight “parallax-free,” letting shooters get their shot payload downrange to its intended recipient no madder how awkward your cheek weld or shooting position, but they provide a finer aiming point, as well as don’t obscure your target  - particularly at  longer ranges. Fast and easy, put the dot on the thing and pull the thing. Toward the end we chat through magnified optics on shotguns for big game and turkeys and Ryan hucks out a sighting-in Pro-Tip that will save you $$$! Outfit your turkey gun with a red dot and take a hung up gobbler – and hang his hooks on a limb. As always, we want to hear your feedback! Welcome to the Vortex Nation podcast brought to you by lovers of hunting, shooting, public lands, the Second Amendment and Good Food. All right, everybody. I think we've done a couple of episodes on shotguns now, and once you get bit by the shotgun bug you just stick with it

0:26.1

it's not a bad bug to get bit by and we're gonna talk more about shotguns here I

0:30.9

mean you can go back and listen to all kinds of stuff about shells,

0:34.5

we've done stuff on chokes, turkey loads, this one in particular is going to

0:40.9

be about optics on shotguns.

0:45.0

I'm feeling really good now too because Ryan just talked me up big time on my Mossberg 500 Persuader that I previously had dogg done, which is apparently now the shotgun to have, for the

0:58.2

apocalypse.

0:59.2

Yes.

1:00.2

It's like the AK-47 guns.

1:01.2

When you said that, I was, I don't know if you saw me beaming over here.

1:04.7

Well it's like it's like you no wonder you were so naturally drawn to it.

1:08.1

Yeah so long ago first gun purchase ever. It was in your DNA.

1:13.0

That's right.

1:14.0

I looked up at the, I think I looked up at the wall as an 18 year old kid and I saw the price of an actual

1:17.8

AK-47 and I was like, oh, go for the shotgun version.

1:21.0

So anyway, I don't have an optic on that one but I've thought

1:28.1

about it many times. Optics on shotguns remind me somewhat of optics on handguns,

1:35.0

in that it's a little bit the Wild West.

1:38.2

I think it's been a thing for longer,

1:40.8

the fact that people have been putting optics on, you know, slug guns, maybe even

1:44.8

scatter guns, I don't know, but it's been a thing a little bit longer, but there's so many ways

1:49.8

you can do it.
