Summary
Struggling to call yourself a "real runner"? I had the hardest time believing that I was a runner for years! I know the “real runner” versus “fake runner/not real runner/imposter runner” (what do we call ourselves when we’re in runner limbo?) debate seems to be black and white, but for anyone struggling to assume the believe that they're a real runner, it’s a lot harder than just getting permission to call ourselves runners. Let's talk about the real runner struggle, shall we?

| 0:00.0 | Hey ladies and gentlemen, welcome to episode 11 of the Run, selfie, repeat podcast. I am your |
| 0:10.5 | lady host, Kelly Roberts, and I'm ready to talk about life with the side of running. How about |
| 0:17.4 | you? First, actually, can I take a second to say that this is going well? I have to be |
| 0:23.1 | honest, I launched the run selfie repeat podcast because I'm working on another show and I was |
| 0:29.6 | feeling really insecure about my lack of experience in the podcasting world, i.e. that I didn't have any. |
| 0:37.1 | And for me, the best way to walk into a room confidently |
| 0:39.6 | and ask people for money when I don't know what I'm doing is to at least be able to say that I've |
| 0:44.3 | done it. And I don't know what I expected, but I did not expect it to go this well. I feel like that's really terrible of me to say. But thanks to you all, |
| 0:59.4 | we've hit over 10,000 listens so far. And that number is mind boggling because the podcast |
| 1:05.8 | is only like two weeks old. So thank you for listening and thank you for sharing it and |
| 1:10.1 | reviewing and rating it |
| 1:11.4 | because without you, I wouldn't be doing this and I wouldn't have the courage to sit in my |
| 1:17.1 | parents' garage, aka my posh recording studio, and talk to you all about my deepest, darkest fears and |
| 1:26.3 | the things that I tie a lot of shame and |
| 1:28.0 | embarrassment to. So this is going really well. This is great. Thank you. But serious, I know I joke, |
| 1:34.8 | but I thank you. I really am really grateful. But let's get down to bearsness. I had to do that. Okay, today I want to talk about the struggle that so many of us |
| 1:47.7 | face in calling ourselves real runners because it's easily one of the hardest parts about |
| 1:53.5 | becoming a runner. And I say that gently because becoming a runner and the physical act is |
| 1:59.3 | obviously the hardest part. But for so many of us |
| 2:03.8 | struggling to call ourselves runners and believe it is really, really, really hard. And that struggle is |
| 2:08.9 | very real. I mean, I remember when I was first bit by the running bug, I'd like spend a lot of |
| 2:15.3 | time on Pinterest because I felt so cool that I was a runner and all this all these inside running jokes made sense to me all the sudden and I was I mean I fell down all the runners world women's running you know running article black holes and I would just spend all my free time in the running world because I thought it was so cool that I was running. |
