Today we'll be telling the story of St. Enda of Arran, whose feast is celebrated on March 21st.

St. Enda was an Irish saint that lived in the 5th century and is considered to be the patriarch

of Irish monasticism.

Enda was converted by his sister and decided to become a monk.

He was given land in the Arran Islands by his brother-in-law, who was the king of Munster.

One of the islands known as the Great

is where St. Enda established what is considered to be the first Irish monastery.

St. Enda and his monks lived very simple lives of work, prayer, fasting, and Bible study.

Even during his own lifetime, St. Enda's monastery became an important pilgrimage site,

and many Irish Saints are associated with St. Enda and his community in some way.

Now it's time for our story.

Saint Enda looked out over the fields of the monastery and took a deep breath of the fresh sea air.
