Hey everyone, Las La Montgomery here with another China History podcast.

Today we're covering part seven of our Hong Kong history overview.

We're going to pick up in the years leading up to the Japanese invasion and the Battle of Hong Kong.

Then we'll look at the three years and eight months of the Japanese occupation.

I'm going to skip over Sir Andrew Caldecott, 19th Governor of Hong Kong, and the one serving

the shortest time in office, December 1935 to October 1937.

He was succeeded by Sir Jeffrey Northcoat, who by the time of his tenure as

governor was already enjoying terrible health, he was hardly in the physical and mental state to deal with the historic events that were breaking out all around.

So not much that can be said about Hong Kong's 20th governor.

It was during Northcoats time that the Marco Polo Bridge incident went down July 7th, 1937.

This was the incident that sparked the whole Japanese invasion of China.
