Summary

Matt considered himself a casual runner, completing one or two half-marathons a year. He was raising a family, advancing his career, and staying healthy. His outlook on life was that it was chugging along, and Matt was content. As far as he was concerned, he “had it all figured out.”

However, as life often does, it threw Matt a tough curveball with what seemed like an unsolvable problem. His balance was off, he was constantly exhausted, and his vision was blurry.

After months of doctor appointments, ER visits, and no answers, Matt was left with a sense of bewilderment about the changes happening to him. After collapsing on a work trip and being rushed to the hospital by his work colleagues, he was finally diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and told he would be wheelchair-bound within five years.

Today, we’ll hear about Matt’s journey since the diagnosis, how he got back into running, and how he set his goals far beyond what he imagined before this life-altering news. This leads us to what’s next. Starting June 15th, Matt is planning to run from Lincoln, Nebraska, to Casey, Iowa, in an effort to raise awareness and funds for MS Run the US. But anyway, it's something I've been working on for the

past year pretty heavily. Well, it's out in the world now. And that's through my day job

0:43.7

at athletic brewing, non-alcoholic craft beer. And we made this cool documentary about our

0:49.8

community of ambassadors in this really neat adventure they did. It is an adventure. It's a triathlon,

0:56.4

but they were training. And really, the whole documentary is about the backstory of these three

1:00.7

athletes. And as they overcome life's challenges to accumulation of racing Ironman Lake Placid together,

1:09.2

which is one of the hardest and most prestigious Ironman

1:12.0

challenges triathlines in the world. Well, that in the documentary is awesome. It's so professionally

1:18.1

done. It's on YouTube. There is a link in the show notes to go watch it. It's a little over an hour.

1:22.4

It's like an hour or 10 minutes. I encourage you to go watch it. It was awesome, and that's what I've been working on.

1:28.2

So that took me out of town last week. We did a screening up near our brewery in Connecticut,

1:34.0

and I just ran out of time. I could not get a podcast episode done. So that's the delay.

1:39.3

And also, I want to tell you this past weekend, we did another swamp drifters adventure. That's where me and my

1:46.4

friends and whoever else wants to go goes and does a Friday night to a Sunday evening adventure.

1:52.6

Nearly 48 hours, and we go paddle somewhere in the backwoods, back black waters of Florida.
