Summary
Alison was born and raised in Ohio and recently graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art. She wanted to do something epic to celebrate the milestone and take a deep look into the place she loved; her home state of Ohio.
The Ohio Project was born. Alsup proceeded to traversed 3,416 miles by foot, bike, and rollerblades focused on seeing as much of Ohio as possible. She bikepacked 850 miles along the entire length of the Ohio River, thru hiked the 1,444 mile Buckeye Trail, bikepacked 796 miles around the entire perimeter of Lake Erie, and then did a bike/rollerblade combo of 326 mile Ohio to Erie Trail from Cleveland to Cincinnati.
Alsup is currently working on a body of artwork about the beauty of the Ohio Region, and its natural wonder, historical importance, and the kindness of its residents. She will be showing her art in exhibitions and festivals, and selling her work on her website. She hopes her project will spread appreciation for Ohio, encouraging its natural protection, and for residents to explore their own backyards.
Alison was the winner of our 2023 Adventure Grant

| 0:00.0 | Hey, folks, welcome to the Adventure Sports Podcast. I'm your host Mason. Today's episode is really |
| 0:27.3 | special. Today we're talking to Allison Alsup, and she is the winner of our adventure grant last |
| 0:33.6 | year. And if you didn't know, we put that on, it was awesome. We got applicants. And I remember |
| 0:39.1 | coming across this application and thinking, this is so different. This is so unique. This is so, |
| 0:44.3 | this is exactly what we try to emulate on this show or try to get people to go do these kinds of |
| 0:51.2 | experiences. Because Allison basically created something that she wanted to do |
| 0:57.2 | that was really meaningful to her and just made it happen. It wasn't necessarily something anyone |
| 1:02.0 | had ever done before. And it's dubbed the Ohio Project. And what it was, she had just graduated |
| 1:07.3 | from art school and wanted to see and explore her home state that she is |
| 1:12.0 | falling more and more in love with. |
| 1:14.1 | You know, Ohio, not a lot of people would think that's an adventure destination, but she |
| 1:18.0 | wanted to see what it was all about and decided to bike nearly 800 miles along the Ohio |
| 1:23.5 | river, then hike through hike the Buckeye Trail, which basically is the perimeter of the |
| 1:28.2 | state of Ohio, and then bike pack all the way around Lake Erie, the perimeter of Lake Erie, |
| 1:33.3 | just to add another part of this. And then she did finish off with some rollerblading, |
| 1:38.3 | like three or four days of rollerblading, which was awesome. And I just loved this project, |
| 1:42.7 | because on this show, we talk about, you know, |
| 1:44.5 | doing adventure where you are. You don't need to go to New Zealand. You don't need to go to the Himalayas. You don't need to go halfway around the world to have an adventure. You can have the most incredible life-changing, eye-opening experience right in your hometown. Don't believe me. go listen to Alistair Humphrey's episode from episode 1,000. |
| 2:02.5 | If it's true for him, it's true for anyone else listening. right in your hometown. Don't believe me, go listen to Alistair Humphrey's episode from episode |
| 2:01.6 | 1000. If it's true for him, it's true for anyone else listening to this show. And another really |
| 2:06.6 | cool aspect about Allison's journey is she's an artist. So she is going to be processing this |
| 2:12.2 | experience, which she recently completed this past year, in the form of drawings and paintings and she's already |
