0:20.8	welcome to the first episode of the Disclosure Podcast I am your host Ed and I thought that we could start the whole
0:27.4	podcast series probably with kind of a breakdown of media bias and kind of how the media represents veganism
0:36.5	and where we could go through some of the things that have happened this year but also
0:38.9	kind of look at previous years and just look generally at how the media presents veganism.
0:45.0	And I think the best place to start with this is to look at what happened so far this year
0:51.0	and then we can discuss maybe last year as well which was also really
0:55.3	kind of really pivotal I think in terms of press and media and how veganism was portrayed
1:00.4	But the reason I want to start with this year, I think it's a nice tie-in is when I talk about media and media bias, of course I'm talking about print media. I'm talking about online press coverage.
1:11.0	But I'm also talking about TV and you talking about TV programs represent veganism and the plant-based
1:16.3	lifestyle. And so at the beginning of this year there was a program on Channel 4 called Dispatchers,
1:21.2	and the Dispatchers is a long-running series on Channel 4 called Dispatchers and the Dispatchers is a long-running series on Channel 4 and
1:24.9	it's supposed to be kind of like an investigative journalistic kind of very credible and respectable
1:29.9	TV program when I was kind of looked to Dis dispatches as being kind of this source of credibility and kind of unerfing
1:36.1	and talking about things that are a little bit more maybe controversial and doing things that maybe
1:40.4	you would expect investigative journalists to do.
1:43.4	And so they decided to air a program called The Truth About Vigons.
1:46.2	I think it aired on like the 2 January, so straight into the New Year, straight when everyone's
1:49.8	trying to be January, they air this program on Channel 4 4 and the program itself was well it was kind of
1:57.2	kind of ridiculous really in the way they portrayed vegans and they tried to
2:01.6	try to make out the whole movement as being this kind of radical
2:04.7	extremist movement kind of with the frameworks of violence kind of integrated
