Welcome to the show. In this one I talk with three prominent black voices in the Alaska community to understand the conversations and the perspectives of Alaskans in the wake of the killing of George Floyd.

Floyd's death has sparked worldwide protests and rallies against police brutality and systemic racism in the United States.

Alaska has seen a number of these rallies, including in Anchorage, Faribanks, Palmer, Utekiavik, Unalaklet, Sitka, and Katsibiu.

In this first conversation, I talk with Michael Coffey, better known as Starbucks, a local rapper

and community activist in Fairbanks. What was your reaction to learning about the killing of George Floyd?

Men, to be completely honest with you, men, disappointment, frustration, anger, sadness, just a bunch of emotions balled up to one. You know, I've been, I pay attention to a lot of this stuff and I'm socially conscious and aware and I'm also aware of the social disparities in this country.
