0:36.0 | Hey guys, welcome back to the Philcraft Survival Podcast. So no shit there I was. It was summer of 2002. |
0:51.0 | And I was going through Special Forces Assessment Selection at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. |
0:58.0 | I was near the end of Special Operations Selection. And specifically I remember we were doing Team Week. |
1:05.0 | And I was with a whole bunch of great guys from the military. And there was a CERNT First Class who was with us from the 25th Infantry Division. |
1:14.0 | A great dude, a humble warrior, 11 bravo, petuness aren't with a lot of experience. |
1:20.0 | I was in charge of this movement. They had put me in charge of this movement to really test my leadership and see how it would react under pressure. |
1:28.0 | So there's no doubt that we were being evaluated the entire way through. |
1:32.0 | As we conducted this movement with this heavy equipment, we had to take breaks. And every time we took a break I put everybody off to the side of the road. |
1:40.0 | And I made them basically sit on their ass with a Rucksack on. And the contraption that we were working with was behind their necks. |
1:50.0 | And I remember every time I sat these guys down, this pole on the back of this CERNT First Class's neck would pop up out of the Rucksack and pop them in the back of the head. |
1:59.0 | It was basically like somebody was punching him in the back of the head. |
2:04.0 | And I remember the first and second time it happened he was pissed. He was angry as frustrated. |
2:10.0 | But I remember about the fourth or fifth time when he went to sit down and he took that Rucksack flop. |
2:21.0 | That bar came up and popped in the back of the head. And he whimpered. He cried and kind of whimpered. |
2:31.0 | And I remember looking at his face and seeing the anguish in his face as he almost started to ball. |
2:38.0 | And then he dubbed it and snapped himself out of it. |
2:43.0 | But I remember thinking looking at him, that this event, this physical event that was stressful where you had to be a good subordinate, you had to be a good leader, you had to make things happen, you were tired, hungry, fatigued. |
2:59.0 | It was breaking him down mentally. And I remember looking at him and thinking to myself, this is it, this is what this is doing. |
3:09.0 | And it was an eye opening experience. As we got up, you know, he dubbed deep and he continued to move. |
