I went at least another 200 feet through the ungroomed course, which was what we call the potato chips or the crunchies,

bouncing along, unable to do anything, but finally came to a stop, got my left foot out and could hold the bike up.

I had to wait for them to come and pull my foot out of the ferry.

Born and raised in the eastern U.S., Tom ended up in Colorado where he met his wife and got married.

After returning to the East Coast in the early 70s in search of work, they ultimately ended

up in Nova Scotia and settled down to call that home.

Tom is with us today to talk about motorcycle land speed racing.

Tom, thanks for joining us. Thank you, Travis, for having

me on your show. Well, we're glad to have you. So Tom, take a few minutes to tell our

listeners about yourself and your involvement in motorcycles and land speed racing. Well, you know,

my first venture into motorcycles happened when I was about 14 years old, and I built my own motorcycle using a bicycle frame and a lawnmower engine.

That project lasted about a week because I tore all the spokes out of the rear wheel.

So I moved on to a mini bike, and then after that, I really didn't have a bike until I went to college.

And while at university, my first real motorcycle was a 1961 matchless.
