Here we go, episode 21.

So in this one guest host Aurora Ford and I sit down with Lisa Sauter.

Lisa is the executive director of Beans Cafe a soup kitchen here in Anchorage.

I really enjoyed this one because we got a chance to talk about something I don't really know much about.

And I think that unless you've been homeless or in similar dire straits, I don't think it's something easily

understandable.

One thing that really stood out to me was when I admit to Lisa that I give homeless people money and she told me

that there are better ways to help those people in need like buying them a bus pass or telling them about the services available to them.

So instead of rolling up to the light at, say like 15th, that's a common area for people to hang out in and kind of panhandle and I live downtown.

So that's the route that I take to go home and I have regularly given people if I have a dollar if I have two dollars if I have

50 cents or something like that I'll just kind of you know hand it out the window and

Lisa told me that that's not helpful. What is helpful is when you

point them in a direction like Beans Cafe or the Brother Francis shelter and they're able to get the services they need to kind of move on to that

to being more of a

a working member of society.

Not trying to give too much away, so let's get into the company men.
