My entitled mother gets furiously angry when my wife and I choose a different name for

our newborn child. As my entitled mother claimed that we were breaking a family tradition,

by naming our son anything other than the family name that she chose out for us.

Here's what happened. So this situation happened about 14 years ago at this point.

At the time I was 21 and my wife was 22 and we were happy to announce that we were expecting

our first child. We had been trying for a while and had been told by the wife's doctor

that she had some complications that would make it very difficult for her to conceive.

I don't remember what the issue was but it wasn't impossible. It was just incredibly difficult.

We had basically given up on trying. We were just enjoying our lives together and having the

backburner hope that it might happen one day. But eventually it did. We were both overjoyed

and terrified. Nothing is as real as finding out that you're expecting a child and it can be a lot

to take in all at once. Everyone around us in our extended family is so excited. We get

congratulated by a lot of people in the family. My dad was probably the most wholesome I'd ever

seen or heard him be when we told him the news. My mom was also over the moon at the news that we

announced to them. But her attitude very quickly changed when we started looking for a name for our

child. After the first couple of months we started really trying to hunt down names. We had already

considered and rejected the idea of naming our son after any kind of family member. We just

weren't interested in that. We both subscribed to the idea that the sound of a name is important.

Your name is the very first impression that people will have of you. Before ever even looking

into your eyes they can already have an opinion of you and we wanted it to be a good one.

I'm not going to get into what names we chose as opposed to what names we rejected because

it really would be a lot and I'm not trying to bash on anyone else's names and I think now
