Summary

This episode felt like a great betrayal to even contemplate writing!

But when a listener reached out and asked to us to take closer look into the craft beer industry...we did just that!

I was a HUGE fan of all things craft beer before I went sober. They felt rebellious, cool, they seemingly tasted better, were slightly more expensive, always stronger in their alcohol content and were always served by trendy looking blokes with beards, moustaches and tiny beanie hats!

Was this just effective marketing or is there something a little darker about this booming industry?

To be fair, as you will soon find out Vic and Hame will actually fall for any kind of product that is sold as being small-batch, artisan, home-made or organic!

Anyone else struggle with this?!

Enjoy the episode!

I've just got to tell you very quickly about my mum's friend.

0:03.8

Okay.

0:57.1

Who's read my book and is absolutely disgusted. With you? Yeah. And she told you that or she told you a mom with your mum? She's told my mum that she thinks she's a horrible parent, that she was a terrible parent. Do you know why? Do you know why she hates it? Why? She's read it in chronological order. Oh, she's like one of those books where you think you ought to go turn to page 84 and then uncut. No, no, she's just read it. She hasn't looked at the dates or anything. She has read the book flashes from the past to the present, but she's read it as if it's written in chronological order. Chronological, blah, blah. Yeah. so she thinks literally that I was going out and taking ecstasy and then feeding a newborn the next day. Oh, she didn't figure it out. She didn't figure it out. I thought you meant she was like skipping to chapter nine because then you're 16 and then skipping back to chapter three because you're 17. No. She thinks I was in a tsunami and then had a baby and With John. Yeah. She didn't understand the order of the book. So she now thinks that I'm this drug riddled, disgusting parent who was

1:02.8

in various relationships whilst with my husband. She's totally missed the point. How has she missed

1:08.5

that? I don't know. Wow. I wonder how many other people

1:13.2

have read it either. Well, that's what I'm worried about. Is that 1% of readers? Let's just make a note here

1:18.0

that the book flicks from me being eight to being 40 all the way through, but she's read that as me

1:24.2

being eight and then 40 in the next day. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

1:31.9

Do you call her and explain? No, luckily. No, luckily I don't respect her opinion.

1:36.5

Yeah, you just cut her off. Don't like her here. Fuck her. She's interesting? Doesn't surprise me quite honestly. What are we talking about today? You knobbed? Tell you what got me thinking

1:41.7

is how much your spending habits change when you go sober.

1:46.9

So, you know, particularly if you've got the app that tells you much money you've saved

1:49.2

from not buying alcohol.

1:50.2

Yes.

1:50.7

I find myself being very generous in the supermarket, whereas before I would have been like crawling,

1:57.9

skin crawlingly tight.

1:59.3

Yes.

1:59.5

You walk past a kombucha and it's $9.

2:02.4

Yeah.

2:02.6

I'm like, yeah, go on every day. I buy a kombucha every day. $9. Between six and nine. It's expensive, isn't it? But then when you're buying B, you're like $40 a crate, like great, that's cheaper than the $50 a crate one. Yeah. So now my shopping car is off and I'll get the fancy chocolate.

2:18.1

Yes.

2:18.4

I'll get the expensive kombucha.
