Karen was born and raised in Dallas, Texas by a creative family who encouraged her to

explore her artistic talent from an early age. Her father was an artist and

her mother is a designer and owner of a needlepoint company. In this episode, Karen

talks about how she got an introduction to our first gallery representation from the artist

Kwang Ho, how she chose which paintings to submit, and when you listen carefully throughout

this episode, a common thread is how the relationships

Karen has built with other artists has helped her throughout her career.

By being there to bounce ideas off of, providing help with gallery situations, social connections, and collaborating to keep

live drawing skills up. These relationships have been really important to Karen's

career. She also talks about what happened when she had to take a few years off to care for her kids.

Her son at two years old developed severe eczema and at the same time Karen was diagnosed with Celiac and had a newborn.

Karen shares what she learned from this experience about trusting herself,

self-care, and the favorite stories, The Surprise Model, who showed up while she was setting up for an entirely different painting.
