This is CBS. I am the world. My colleague, Simon Constable, in Albi, the south of France, where the church bells ring out on a beautiful blue day. We're reporting on Europe, but we must turn to the part of Europe that is not all that comfortable being Europe, but that would be

Great Britain, Simon's home.

And in praise of Kier-Starmer, he leads a group of ruffians called backbenchers who have revolted

against his leadership these last days, and he backed down.

And so it's easy to pummel him as insufficiently strong-minded in his own policies

and not backing up Rachel Reeves, not sticking with the growth pattern that they said

was vital, with not handling the fact that he has a 165 majority in the parliament for heaven's

sakes. However, in praise of Kier Starrmer, the EU has now discovered that it right now

is not going to get as good a deal from Donald Trump as Kier Starrmer got because he moved

first. Simon, Starrmer, in praise, do you hear it back home? Is it on BBC 4?

Are they actually saying nice things about him? I'm not sure about this yet. I think the press in the UK

has basically woken up to the bigger problems with Keir Starrma is that overall he's not been a great

leader, although that is a great

achievement to have one of the best deals in the in the world with America. And he perhaps should

be given a pat on the back for that. But I don't think the British press, which is a bit

ravenous at times like it is now, will want to give him some kudos. What is interesting here

is though that I think Kirstama, I don't know this, but I just suspected that Kirstama probably

wants Britain back in the European Union and this would give the European Union's a lot of

incentive to get them back in, to get Britain back in as it was, possibly under a new deal.

So we'll see what happens, but that's my suspicion.

What happened back home, you all note on your headlines, is that Starmor and Reeves had a very modest reduction in welfare payments.

I mean, so modest, we're talking about a rounding error.
