passage of scripture and then we talk about it we explain it. I'm not going

to explain this one today. I'm going to demonstrate it because I want us to consider somebody who has taught me and many others the word of God.

When I was in my 20s, I went to seminary because I had already begun ministry but knew I wanted to

handle the word of God better and I wanted to teach better and I wanted to minister better

But when I showed up at seminary people say like what are you gonna major and I said I have no idea I don't really know how to pick what subject to specify I was like Jesus like I don't know what the answer is what do you want for me but I took my first church history class with this man and I immediately went and

changed my major to church history and took as many classes as I could for a couple

reasons one is I loved the stories of people who had

persevered well in times past. I was inspired by them. And I love the perspective. You know if we just

think about our moment in history we can get a really myopic view of life and

think it's all about us. It's nice to see ourselves in context of the grand story of how God is building his church, right?
