Whenever someone wrongs us, the first reaction, human nature, the way it is, the first thought that hit us is revenge, right?

How we're personally going to avenge the wrong that is done to us?

How are we going to hit back even harder than we are hit? How are we going to

pay back double or triple or more? And then we conjure and we plan retribution. How are we going to do

this? In fact, we talk about sweet revenge.

You hear people joke, but behind the joking,

there is seriousness.

I don't get mad, I get even.

Now I'm not talking, of course, about when we get dragged

into the courts of justice, and we had to defend ourselves

and seek justice and so forth. That's not what I'm talking about.

I'm talking personal interactions. I read a story about a wife who went to see the pastor. She had

an abusive husband and she was really pouring her heart out to the pastor and telling him about

all the abusive relationship they had and the anger that she's

holding in her heart and how she wanted to hit back somehow.

And the pastor assumed that she understand biblical concepts, that she understood what

Jesus meant that when you are attacked, you know, instead of hit back, let revenge belong to God,

and you heap hot call on their head when you do good to those who have attacked you.

And so he said to her, he said, have you thought about putting hot call on his head?

Well, she had no idea of that means, and she thought for a minute, and she said, no, really,

I haven't tried that.

I have tried boiling water once.
