Today's Encore episode is an interview I did with Ruth King over a year ago.

She's an international educator, author, organizational consultant, and meditation teacher.

This discussion could not be more relevant to today's events.

Ruth's book, Mindful of Race, Transforming Racism from the Inside Out, is powerful and timely.

She asks us to look at our conscious and unconscious biases,

our racial history, and to explore very honestly how we've been conditioned in our culture.

Matters of race are still so prevalent. It's time we look deeply at ourselves and ask the question, what does this have to do with me and how can I be a part of the change?

I think you'll find Ruth King to be incredibly honest, authentic, wise, and inspirational.

We need to take some of these actions now.

Ruth, it's just so great to have you on Untangle today.

Thank you so much for being here.

Thank you. I want to tell our audience a little bit about your background and you grew up in

the late 60s in South Central L.A. It was right in the heart of the civil rights movement.

Can you tell us a little bit about some of your observations and feelings

during this time? Yes. I grew up in South Central Los Angeles. I come from a family of eight.

I have seven siblings. I actually have five now. And we grew up in a working class neighborhood and with a single mom.

It was very alive in terms of civil rights activities, but it was also very alive with jazz.
