We've spoken a bit about how cultures all around the world spend the three days of

hollow-tied praying, especially for those that have died on the feast of all souls.

But why would you pray for someone not so already dead?

Well, the Catholic Church teaches that some souls don't go straight to heaven when they die.

Instead, they spend some time in purgatory, where they finish becoming purified enough

to go see God face to face in heaven.

Sort of like a heaven-weighting room.

Our prayers can help them get to heaven faster.

Many, many saints spoke about how grateful the souls in purgatory are for our prayers,

and they pray for us too.

How cool.

One of the best-known saints that spoke a lot about the souls in purgatory was St.
