Well, the US stock indexes were all closed today in observance of the good Friday holiday,

but that didn't stop the labor department from releasing the non-farm payroll report

for March.

And there was a lot of anticipation surrounding this report.

In fact, there were some whisper numbers that the number would come out above 1 million

jobs created during the month.

But the official consensus was about 658,000 jobs.

We ended up coming in at 916,000 so near the high end of expectations, but not above that

whisper number of 1 million jobs.

But they did operatively revise the original estimate for February originally reported at

379,000 jobs.

That was operatively revised to 468,000 jobs.

The official unemployment rate also declined as expected from 6.2% to 6%.

But again, unofficially, the real rate remains well in excess of 10%.

I mean, I'm not really sure what it is.

You can look at the U6 number, which is still above that number, but the labor force participation

rate, while it did not jump from 61.4 to 61.5, that's still a very low number.
