Welcome to the Emotionally Healthy Leader podcast. My name is Rich Velotus. I'm the lead pastor,

a New Life Fellowship Church here in Queens, New York City.

And I'm here as always with Pete Scazero. Pete is the founder of emotionally healthy spirituality,

as well as the founder of New Life Fellowship Church. And we've been on a series of podcasts

unpacking some of the themes of the book, The Emotionally Healthy Leader.

And Pete, for the last few times,

we've been focusing on the inner life.

We've addressed issues such as facing your shadow,

leading out of your marriage and singleness,

or singleness, slowing down for loving union,

and practicing Sabbath delight.

Now, that's the first part of the book where we are looking at the inner life. Now we're going to focus on the outer life. And to kind of

illustrate this you you have the image on the cover of the book as well as within the

book of the tree. So let's just tell me about how does the inner life and the

outer life flow with

that diagram there.

And actually this is the reason I wrote the book in the first place was my own struggle

with connecting the inner and outer life. And so to introduce the second half of the book

is this illustration of a tree in part two. And again, the cover of the book is you've got the roots of the tree going down, but the question

is how they connect to the upper branches of the tree.

And so for most of my leadership, I would take business practices, best practices out there

in the marketplace, and just simply bring them into our church.
