about how our clothes are often so much more than fashion, fabric, and thread.

They're vital because they're storytelling tools,

literally through stains and tears and smells,

but also just through the experiences that we have

as we're walking through the world.

And so our clothing winds up being a trigger

for these memories.

Here's Debbie Millman.

Clothes are commodities.

Companies design, manufacture, and sell them.

We buy them, wear them, give them away, and we sell them, or we just throw them away.

But in the meantime, clothes pick up intimate stories from our lives.

We remember the person who gave them to us for the occasion we first wore

them and how they made us feel, or the loved one they used to belong to, or who we took them

off for.

A full closet is full of memories.
