Summary

Emily Kaplan is the co-founder of The Broken Science Initiative and MetFix. She is focused on helping coaches and doctors reverse chronic diseases using lifestyle interventions. The BSI is the research arm of the initiative, doing deep dives into how modern peer-review works, or in many cases does not work, looking at how industry influences outcomes and how to evaluate good research versus corrupted findings.

They host monthly Journal Club gatherings for community members to learn what a study purports to conclude and then what the methods, findings and statistical tools are actually finding. With regular live streams with metabolic experts, the BSI and MetFix communities have exclusive opportunities to learn and problem solve. MetFix has more than 130 independently owned locations, transforming lives daily. The education is offered online and in-person and designed to be an added layer of nutrition and behavior change for gyms and medical practices worldwide.

Fit For Duty, is the newest MetFix online class designed for first responders including law enforcement, firefighters, federal air marshals and emergency medical professionals. Built to teach metabolic mechanisms in practical ways with tools first responders can implement immediately to start improving their health outcomes. More at MetFix.org

Music the show, Emily Kaplan. Enjoy. Well, Emily, I want to start by saying thank you so much for coming back onto the Behind the Shield podcast today. Well, you know, I feel like of all the interviews I've done over the last few years, yours is one that really stands out. You did your research last time. You were on top of it. You asked me questions. Nobody else has asked me. So I'm more nervous to come on your show than I than others because I know how well get things out of people, which as a former journalist, I definitely appreciate it. So thank you for having me. Well, it was such a good conversation that we ended up doing. I can't remember if we did it all in one go or two parts, but it's the only episode in over 1,200 now where I've actually done a part one and part two back to back. I think each of them were like two, two and a half hours. So yeah, we took a deep deep dive that time. Maybe I just talked too much. I don't know. That could just be me. No, no. This is the thing. There was so much great information.

2:52.9

So the last time we did speak was April 2023. So that was three years ago.

2:58.0

So before we take a kind of dive into the very pertinent work that you're working on now,

3:03.2

let's roll the clock back three years. What has changed as far as the broken science initiative and some of the innovations that

3:10.3

you've seen on that side?

3:12.3

Yeah, so the broken science initiative really started in part, I mean, in large part,
