I am recording this in my family's home,

and despite being filled with love and just so many A-plus chatskees,

for some reason they do not have a professional audio setup.

Don't worry because the actual interview portion of this episode was recorded with, you know, mites and everything.

And don't worry because this episode is very good and I love it. It's with stand-up

comedian and writer Emily Heller. I can't remember when we first met it might have

been at a panel seven years ago around the release of Yala Cohen's

oral history about women in comedy, We Killed, but I've known Emily for a while now.

As in many ways, our careers in comedy, hers in performing, mine mine and reporting parallel to each other.

We both started in San Francisco and then moved to New York around the same time.

We both found larger and larger platforms around the same time.

Eventually she moved out to L. Right, which most recently has led her to a gig working on

H.Barry.

I don't know, maybe it's because of the timing, but Emily and I have always seemed to have

similar ways at looking at comedy and what a stand-up should

put into and get out of their work. Because I've seen so much of her journey where it led

Emily in terms of how she worked on her last special Ice Thinkners, which came

out earlier this year in Comedy Central's YouTube channel, and where she is now with her

stand-up fascinated me.

So as I said, this is a very good episode and I love it.
