What's up everybody? Tom Caron's Patriots Talk podcast, big news, big news here at the end of the week.

Cam Newton is coming back to the Patriots on a low ball deal, but it's still a deal.

It's bringing in the senator Phil Perry right now. Phil, my first inclination on this was, I have said, in case of emergency, break glass, that will be Cam Newton's role with the Patriots. I did have it at about 51% yesterday

that he'd be back. Why is he back now? Because they needed somebody. And this is something that we have

said that they need to come away with a quarterback at some point in March because you don't

want to go into free agency with Jared Stidham as your only guy. I just thought with Cam Newton, Tom,

your break glass in case of emergency scenario would have been, say, after the draft. And that before

free agency, you try to work a trade, maybe you just try to sign somebody during the legal

tampering period so that you can tell free agents where free agency actually begins that we have a professional quarterback. I did not think

it would be this early with Newton. So since it is, and we understand a little bit of the details of

the contract, Max is out at about $14 million, Albert Breer reporting that, Adam Schaefter as well, and it's incentive

laden. What do we then infer from this signing? To me, a few things. One, a friend in need

is a friend indeed. And these two friends needed each other. The Patriots, for the reason you stated,

they want to be able to say to Corey Davis, Curtis

Samuel, when they ask, who's your quarterback? They go, Kim, Kim, come on up here. He'll give you a funny

nickname. We'll throw you the ball. Maybe it'll get to you. Maybe it won't, but at least you'll be

on TV a bunch. And we're going to pay you up money. It becomes a little more persuasive. But also for Cam Newton, I wonder if he read the writing

on the wall and said, you know what, I can't be auctioned in my services after an eight touchdown,

10-pick season. Why don't I just go back to this place that we got along great and there's unfinished business. That to me is what I'm reading on both
