I don't know why trauma has fallen off from the rotation schedule. But we are back. In fact I have a lot

of trauma episodes planned. So let's get into the topic of today which is

going to be penetrating neck trauma.

And we're going to talk about some stuff that is evergreen that's been out forever,

but a lot of what we're going to talk about today is a brand new paradigm shift

in the management of penetrating neck trauma.

Now, I don't know about you, but when I was raised as a young buck in emergency medicine and

critical care, we had all the zones and you had to memorize the zones and you had to get

annoyed because zone one was not at the top, it was at the bottom of the body and

were the first order. All that silliness. That's all gone. And that's what we'll

Now what sparked me doing this show was a fantastic review paper from friend to the show, Kenjianaba in the Journal of Trauma and I linked to that

And it's worth a read. Now what you're going to find discussed in that paper is the

basics but then also this move to the zoneless approach to penetrating

...
