Hello, it is Thursday, November 9th, 2017. I'm Scott Bland, your host, and you are listening

to Politico's Nerdcast. We are going to spend a big chunk of our episode this week breaking down the big

election results from this Tuesday. Democrat Ralph Northam, the lieutenant governor, won a big, big victory in the Virginia governor's race,

defeating Republican Ed Gillespie by about 9 percentage points, a much bigger margin than anyone expected, and he brought a lot

of Democrats with him up and down the ballot.

So we're going to talk about that a little bit.

It wasn't just Virginia either.

There were local elections in New York, Washington, Pennsylvania,

all sorts of places around the country where Democrats made some pretty shocking gains.

And of course, they also gained a governorship. Democrats made some pretty shocking gains.

And of course, they also gained a governorship in New Jersey,

as long expected with Governor Chris Christie retiring there,

being replaced by Democrat Phil Murphy.

We're going to break all that down and more and we're also

going to talk this week about tax reform. The House bill has been out for about a

week now. We are going to have one of Politico's tax experts in the studio to talk about what's in the bill, what's

causing some political tensions, and just how quickly this thing is going to be moving

from here through the end of the year.
