your mind aligned. We're going to be digging in to 2nd Peter chapter 1, verses 5 through 9 in just a

moment. But before we do, I invite you to join me as we pray asking God to be our teacher

and to give us supernatural insight into what he's saying and how it applies to our lives.

Our God, we are grateful and we all, as believers in Jesus Christ, want to be effective in our lives for Jesus' sake.

Show us a new vision, a new insight into how that can happen in our lives.

Okay, friends, to set up the context for you,

Peter has told us that God has given us,

through his divine power, the ability to live a life of godliness.

Period. No exceptions. No if and buts, no qualifiers. That is his promise to us. And he says, for this very reason, so because God has promised you the power,

make every effort to supplement your faith with all of these virtues that he mentions

virtue and knowledge and self-control and steadfastness and godliness and brotherly affection

and love and then he says this in verse eight when he's finished with this whole list he says

for if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful

in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. So do you hear what Peter said? He's giving us a
