Summary

Episode 263 of the Endless Endeavor Podcast features a powerful conversation with two men I have an immense amount of respect for—Dave Barton and Joshua Dukes. We were out in New Jersey for a wedding and decided to seize the moment to record an episode together.

This one runs deep. Joshua opens up about the heartbreaking loss of his son, Trucker, and the impact it’s had on his life. We also dive into what it means for us, as men, to rise up and lead—within our families, our communities, and our country—if we truly want to see real, lasting change.

I know I’ve said this before, but this episode genuinely stands out as one of my favorites to date.

Please enjoy Episode 263 of the Endless Endeavor Podcast.

What's up, guys? Welcome back to the Endless Endeavor podcast. This is going to be episode 263, and we're

0:05.6

going to open up with a story. You know, this episode I recorded with Dave and Joshua, we were in New Jersey

0:10.5

for a wedding, and the day we left, which was actually after recording this episode, me and Joshua shot up

0:16.0

to New York City. I wanted to see the 9-11 Memorial. So we went up there and I got to spend some time there. What a

0:22.5

powerful experience. But this is what's crazy. In this episode you hear about Joshua losing his

0:27.6

son Trucker to cancer. We kind of dived into that a little bit and talked about some of the parts of

0:32.6

that journey that were really hard for him and his wife. Well, when Trucker was getting treatment,

0:37.3

he was actually at the Ronald McDonald House, which is wife. Well, when Trucker was getting treatment, he was actually

0:37.9

at the Ronald McDonald House, which is downtown New York. While Trucker was receiving treatment

0:42.6

there at the Ronald McDonald House, New York Fire Department took him on a ride through the city

0:46.8

and one of their fire engines. To be exact, fire engine 10. And guys, this was in 2017, I believe,

0:53.5

a long time ago. So fast forward to a couple

0:56.3

days ago. Me and Joshua are on the street corner at the 9-11 Memorial and a fire truck

1:02.4

drives by. Not only a fire truck, but fire engine 10, the same truck that took his son for a ride

1:08.4

all those years earlier. And not only was it the same

1:11.1

truck, the guy riding front right, recognized Joshua, stopped the truck, jumped out

1:16.9

and said, I recognize you anywhere, and ran up and he gave him a big hug. Guys, you want to talk

1:22.7

about God shit, universe shit? I looked into it. There are 11,000 firefighters in New York. Not only that,

1:29.5

there are 197 engine companies. And out of all those trucks and all those people, the guy that

1:35.8

drove by was one of the guys that took his son on a ride all those years earlier. Not only was it

1:41.4

him, but he recognized him, jumped out and gave him a hug. You want to talk about an emotional moment. That was really crazy to see. And as soon as Joshua was done hugging him, I walked up, I said, bro, that wasn't by accident. Who knows why that was meant to be, but you were meant to see that guy and give him a hug. That's the universe shit. So pretty incredible. That kind of stuff is like almost statistically

2:01.7

impossible. Yeah, here it is again. So guys, I have a really cool episode with Joshua and Dave,
