Corporations have a lot of money riding on what their in-house economists predict.

I'm David Brancaccio, good morning to you, a new survey from the National Association for Business Economics today finds a more

upbeat mood, but some have a beef with the Guardians of Interest rates at the Federal Reserve.

A familiar voice here, economist Julia Coronado is founder of macro policy

perspectives in past president of that association. Good morning. All right I won't

mention aloud that so many business economists thought we were going to be in recession

last year and they were wrong, but they're certainly getting a little more optimistic here.

Yes, fewer economists, only a quarter expect a recession within the next year.

So that is a lot lower than we're expecting it last year.

Of course, this economist didn't forecast a recession but yes the consensus is now no

recession for 2024. All right well I mean that's certainly going in the right

direction it's not like we'll never get one even all right

economists recognize that maybe next year or

the year after that you know you gotta keep your eyes open yes of course there's always a

possibility of a recession just statistically speaking it's about 20% every year so

about half think there will be a recession within the next couple of years.

Some are a little unhappy with the Fed thinking that their interest rate policy the

feds is off somehow. Yes yes one in five thinks that the that is keeping interest rates too high now.

Monetary policy is too tight, but that may change if we get the right inflation
