This is Fresh Air. I'm Tanya Mosley, and our guest today is Eben Moss Backrack. He's won two

consecutive Emmy Awards for playing the role of Richie in the FX series The Bear. The show,

which has won 21 Emmys altogether, returns this week for its fourth season. Moss Backrack spoke to

Fresh Air's Anne-Marie Baldinado. When we first meet the character Richie in the Bear, he's loud, abrasive, and ornery.

We get the sense that he's like this all the time, but he's also dealing with the recent death of his best friend and business partner Michael and the return of Michael's younger brother, Carmi.

Carmi left Chicago to work at the world's best restaurants, and now he wants to transform

the neighborhood sandwich shop Richie used to run with Michael.
