In today's podcast, we're going to continue our pain management series by talking about the effects

of water immersion on pain relief during labor and childbirth.

I know I've released a signature article from

evidence-based birth before, all about the evidence on water birth. In this

podcast though we're going to talk more about the effects of water immersion in

labor and water birth on pain.

First let me help define some terms for you.

During water immersion during labor, a person gets into a tub or pool of warm water before the baby is born. In a water

birth the person remains in the water during the actual birth of the baby and the

baby is brought to the surface shortly afterwards. You'll also sometimes hear the term land birth

when they're talking about research studies

where people got out of the tub to have a birth on land

or they didn't labor in water at all and just birthed on land.
