The ancient Greeks had a four element theory that maintained that everything was made up of earth, water, fire and air.

I find the simplicity of this so appealing. As you hear each one, you may connect with some pleasant experiences attached to each one.

Whether it's sitting in front of a campfire or walking barefoot on the grass, just feeling the earth beneath you.

And these elements align with modern science, referring to the different states of matter, solid, liquid, gas and plasma.

I've always been drawn to water. When I was younger and had a lot of anxiety, taking baths would always provide some immediate relief.

And I still enjoy baths to soothe my muscles and my mind.

There are a ton of health benefits to bathing. As psychologist Neal Morris says, baths provide a wonderful combination of isolation, quiet and comfort.

And I couldn't agree more. Bathing reduces blood pressure, soothes achy joints, boosts our immunity and eases congestion just to name a few of the benefits.

Bathing also helps us to get deeper sleep because it instigates the production of melatonin which is crucial for falling asleep.

I live in Los Angeles where there's a severe drought. And this makes most of us Angelino's very conscientious about our water consumption, and appreciative of any rain we get.

When I'm in Sweden where there's an abundance of clean water, I'm always in awe of how liberal people are with their water usage.

It's strange to think how different our relationship to water can be depending on where we live.

When I think of the other elements, I think of the element of fire, and how much I love candles and fireplaces, and even just the warmth of a kettle on the stove.

When I write, meet with clients or work on other projects, I always light a candle, and it makes me feel like I have company, like the fires of witness and a companion when I work alone.
